On 19 May 2025, Nexus Water Group announced its divestment of select operations and assets in eight states to American Water Works Company for US$315 million. The assets under transfer include 60 drinking water and wastewater systems that collectively serve approximately 46,600 connections. The transaction is anticipated to close by August 2026, pending receipt of state regulatory approvals.

Nexus Water Group, based in Sugar Land, Texas, was formed in April 2024 following the merger of Corix Infrastructure and SouthWest Water Company. This merger consolidated the two utilities, serving over 1.3 million people across 20 U.S. states and two Canadian provinces. Currently, Nexus serves an estimated 537,935 connections, of which approximately 62% receive drinking water services.

Headquartered in Camden, New Jersey, American Water is the largest regulated water and wastewater investor-owned utility (IOU) in the U.S., serving nearly 3.55 million regulated connections in 14 states, primarily located across the Midwest and lower Northeast regions.
