NextEra Signals Approaching Water-Energy Convergence
On 20 October 2021, during its third-quarter earnings call, NextEra Energy Inc.’s management team announced the acquisition of 17 regulated water and two wastewater utility systems in eight counties near Houston, Texas, in a deal with Quadvest, LP—a 40-year-old family-owned water & sewer utility— that is expected to close in 2022. Q2 2021 had seen record revenue growth in the water industry, with nine of the 45 tracked companies reporting year-over-year (YoY) growth over 25.0%, and only six reporting a negative quarterly performance.
