On 6 January 2026, Itron and its Greek channel partner, IDATOR, announced a collaboration with Thessaloniki Water Supply & Sewerage to deploy Itron’s Smart Water Solutions. This multiyear initiative, worth €49.6 million, will digitize the water infrastructure serving over 1.2 million residents.
Thessaloniki Water Supply & Sewerage aims to reduce its water footprint by 20% by the year 2030 and improve its response times to leak events. This project aligns with Thessaloniki Water Supply & Sewerage’s ongoing efforts to enhance its water supply supervisory control and data acquisition system through the implementation of telemetry, network monitoring, and remote control systems.
The deployment includes Itron’s Intelis smart water meters and the smart water meter data management platform, Temetra, which is a Software-as-a-Service solution. Itron’s key advantage with Temetra is its multi-vendor capability.
This project underscores Itron’s strategy to expand its footprint and build a recurring revenue project backlog—reflecting the current trend among metering vendors toward software-driven differentiation.
