On 11 November 2024, the city of Valencia’s contracting authority officially qualified seven bidding consortia for the tender of its 15-year sewer network operation contract worth €255 million. The scope of works includes the operation, maintenance, and upgrade of the city’s sewer network. The current contract expired 28 June 2021, but the city extended the agreement for two more years as it assessed alternatives. Acciona Agua won the initial contract in 2006 with a bid of €129 million.
In terms of assets scope, Valencia’s sewer network includes nearly 1,400 km of pipe, 135,000 storm drains, and 90 pumping stations. The new contract will require the upgrade of at least 25 km of 170 km aged network assets, in addition to the deployment of sensors for system’s digital management.
