On 15 January 2025, American Water Works Company announced a nine-year exclusive supply contract with Calgon Carbon Corporation. Under this agreement, Calgon will provide American Water with granular activated carbon, equipment, and reactivation services through 2033 for the remediation and treatment of per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS) in drinking water. The announcement is a timely response to the Environmental Protection Agency’s newly established maximum contaminant levels for six PFAS, which were finalized in April 2024.
