Big Deals Hard to Come by in Municipal Water

At the close of 2019, two large municipal utility acquisitions were taken off the table underscoring the challenges of large deals involving municipal systems. On 24 December 2019, Jacksonville, Florida utility JEA canceled its divestment of the city’s combined electric and water system. This marks the second time in two years that JEA has reversed course on privatization, despite significant interest from a range of infrastructure investors and water players.
