On 17 February 2026, Kemira announced plans to invest approximately US$23.4 million to expand its Tarragona, Spain, manufacturing site by adding an activated carbon reactivation plant. The new plant, focused on reusing granular activated carbon and pelletized carbon for drinking water and wastewater treatment, is expected to be operational by the end of 2029.
Kemira first added activated carbon offerings to its portfolio in 2024 with its acquisition of Norit’s activated carbon business in the U.K. Shortly after, Kemira announced intentions to build a new activated carbon reactivation plant at its Helsingborg, Sweden site, which was approved in September 2025 and is expected to be operational in the second half of 2027.
Through a series of acquisitions and investments in recent years, Kemira has diversified its water business beyond its core chemical offerings by expanding its service capabilities. Kemira’s Water Solutions segment accounted for approximately 45% of its US$3.2 billion annual revenue in 2025.
