On 24 June 2025, Grundfos, a Danish water solutions provider, announced its acquisition of Newterra from Frontenac, a private equity firm based in Chicago, Illinois. Newterra, headquartered in Coraopolis, Pennsylvania, specializes in the design, engineering, manufacturing, and servicing of water treatment systems for municipal and industrial end users.

Founded in 1992, Newterra has developed a comprehensive portfolio of offerings that includes advanced treatment solutions such as MBR, filtration, RO, and ion exchange for packaged modular systems. Before being acquired by Frontenac in 2020, the firm was owned by XPV Water Partners.

Denmark-based Grundfos, a leading manufacturer of pumps, has approximately 20,000 employees globally and generates annual revenues of US$5.2 billion. The acquisition of Newterra further bolsters Grundfos’s push into water treatment, with a particular focus on industries such as food & beverage, pharmaceuticals, semiconductors, and data centers. This marks Grundfos’s fifth acquisition focused on water treatment since 2020.
