On 22 July, Spanish water solutions provider and private water utility operator Aqualia announced a new industrial water contract with Mondelēz International. This agreement involves managing water services at the multinational food manufacturer’s facility in Opava, Czech Republic. The contract includes the design, construction, and operation of an on-site wastewater treatment plant aimed at enhancing water reuse and reducing discharge volumes. The new facility will serve Mondelēz’s biscuit and snack production lines and is expected to be commissioned in late 2026.

This project marks Aqualia’s first industrial water win in the Czech Republic and expands its footprint in Central and Eastern Europe, where the company already manages several municipal concessions. Additionally, this deal underscores Mondelēz’s commitment to reducing carbon emissions and minimizing water usage throughout its operations, aligning with its corporate environmental, social, and governance goals.
