Senior Analyst, Advanced Water Treatment

Bluefield Research is expanding our coverage of advanced water treatment solutions and markets of opportunity globally, deepening the firm’s analysis of the companies, technologies, and capital shaping the next generation of water and wastewater treatment for municipalities and industry. This role offers significant opportunity for growth, allowing you to help define Bluefield’s research agenda for advanced treatment technologies and strategies, shape the underlying data platform, publish market-defining research, and become a thought leader on the interplay between business strategies and technology adoption.
Key responsibilities
- Own market coverage and deliver actionable insights. Lead analysis of advanced water treatment markets, including membranes, PFAS treatment, desalination, thermal systems, and water treatment chemicals, producing research that helps clients understand growth drivers, competitive dynamics, technology adoption, and investment opportunities.
- Analyze the competitive landscape. Monitor company strategy, mergers and acquisitions, partnerships, and product launches across membranes, PFAS treatment, desalination, thermal systems, and water treatment chemicals, and translate that activity into clear, defensible analysis.
- Track emerging technologies. Monitor developments across membrane innovation, AI-enabled process controls, decentralized treatment, and resource recovery, and assess how they are changing water and wastewater management and shifting competitive dynamics.
- Build and enhance the data platform. Work with Bluefield’s data team to build and enhance market intelligence datasets on Bluefield’s Data Navigator platform, covering installed base, market share, technology forecasts, and company financials.
- Engage directly with industry leaders and clients. Support analyst access requests, client workshops, and webcasts for a client base that already includes leading multinationals and specialty suppliers in the water sector, as well as private equity firms evaluating the industry.
- Support commercial growth. Work with the sales and marketing teams to identify opportunities to expand research coverage among existing Bluefield clients and to bring on new clients through insight services and consulting.
- Lead research initiatives. Identify emerging themes, develop new research coverage, and help establish Bluefield as the leading authority on advanced water treatment markets.
Show off your education, skills, and experience
- Three to five years’ of experience in market research, equity or industry research, consulting, or a related analytical role. Direct exposure to water, environmental services, industrial technology, or chemicals is a strong plus, but not required.
- Strong quantitative and analytical skills, including the ability to build and maintain structured datasets and translate them into forecasts and market sizing.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to write clearly for a senior, commercially minded audience.
- Comfort with data and visualization tools such as Excel, SQL, Tableau, Qlik, or Sisense; Python experience is a plus.
- Intellectual curiosity about business, technology, and water, and a self-starter mentality suited to a growing area of coverage.
- Willingness to travel occasionally for client meetings and industry conferences.
Qualifcations
- Bachelor’s degree required. An advanced degree (e.g., MBA) is a plus but not required.
- Experience working in a fast-paced, entrepreneurial environment is valued.
- This is a hybrid role, requiring in-office presence at least three days per week, based in one of Bluefield’s office locations: Boston, MA; Barcelona, Spain; Berkeley, CA; or Chicago, IL.
