As a West Coast Sales Associate, you can capture this surge in demand by building relationships with decision-makers who need what we provide: clarity in a complex, rapidly evolving market.

Key Responsibilities:

Drive business development and manage the full sales cycle. Qualify, nurture, and close sales opportunities across the Western U.S. through inbound lead follow-up, targeted outbound outreach, and periodic on-site visits. Maintain an active, accurate pipeline in the CRM and provide regular performance updates to the Sales Director.

  • Build and expand regional pipeline. Identify new prospects using internal databases, market segmentation, whitespace analysis, and industry research. Conduct ongoing outreach to engage water-focused companies across the Western states and expand Bluefield’s regional footprint.
  • Support client management and deepen engagement with existing accounts. Assist with client management tasks throughout the sales cycle—including onboarding new contacts, preparing proposals, contracts, and invoices, and scheduling kickoff calls. Identify cross-sell and up-sell opportunities by promoting Bluefield’s reports, data, subscription services, and custom research.
  • Communicate Bluefield’s value proposition with clarity and confidence. Develop a strong understanding of Bluefield’s subscription offerings, reports, consulting capabilities, and Data Platform. Clearly articulate the value proposition to prospective clients while effectively qualifying opportunities.
  • Gather market intelligence and monitor Western water trends. Stay current on water-related developments and policy trends across the West. Capture client and prospect feedback to inform Bluefield’s research agenda and support ongoing business and product planning.

Key Tasks

Previous Experience should include:

  • 3-5 years of experience in market research, inside or outside sales, business development, or client success; An ideal candidate has some experience in consultative sales for water, climate, or cleantech will be given preference.
  • Experience in developing and building out commercial functions in a start-up environment or management of large, corporate accounts is a plus.
  • Proven ability to network in person, by telephone, and by video.
  • Demonstrated track record of achieving and exceeding annual sales quotas and success in working the sales cycle from contact to deal closure.
  • Willingness to travel to conferences and client visits, when needed.

The Basics:

  • University or College degree, required
  • Commercial experience in a B2B environment preferred
  • Experience with water, energy, climate, or clean tech industries is a plus
  • Proficiency with MS applications required (Excel, Word and PowerPoint); HubSpot, Webinar platforms (e.g. Zoom, Microsoft Teams)
  • Fluency in English
  • The position is based in Berkeley, California

  • Business Development: Partner with sales and marketing to identify opportunities, participate in prospect meetings, and demonstrate subject matter expertise. Travel to industry conferences.
  • Project Management: Own project timelines from scoping through publication, coordinating with editorial and production teams to ensure quality delivery.

Required Skills and Experience  

  • 2-5 years of experience in water, infrastructure, energy, environmental consulting, or market research
  • Bachelor’s degree required; advanced degree (MBA, MPA, MS in related field) preferred
  • Exceptional analytical skills with proficiency in Excel and PowerPoint
  • Outstanding written and verbal communication skills
  • Proven ability to manage multiple projects with competing deadlines
  • U.S. work authorization

Preferred Qualifications

  • Project management or team leadership experience
  • Experience with data visualization tools (Tableau, Power BI, Sisense)
  • Background in civil/environmental engineering, urban planning, or environmental policy
  • Prior experience in entrepreneurial or startup environments
  • Familiarity with municipal utility operations or infrastructure financing
  • In-office position based in Boston, MA or Berkeley, CA
  • Approximately 15-25% for conferences, client meetings, and research activities
  • Competitive salary commensurate with experience and market rates for the Boston/Berkeley area, plus annual performance bonus
