Update: As of 23 May 2024, deal talks between Schneider Electric and Bentley Systems have ended, with no plans to move forward with an acquisition.

On 19 April 2024, France-based Schneider Electric confirmed reports of discussions to potentially acquire Pennsylvania-based Bentley Systems.

The potential deal would be another potential stepping stone in Schneider’s strategy to round out its suite of end-to-end software solutions addressing the design, automation, and maintenance of industry and infrastructure assets. Over the last eight years, Schneider has strategically acquired and formed partnerships in ways that build off of its core competencies in operations management in the electric power sector.

While this deal is not strictly a water play— i.e., both companies are also focused on other sectors such as electric power, energy, and mining—a potential merger could have far-reaching impacts on the market and competitive landscape.
