On 11 June 2014, Hitachi Ltd. announced a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with Veolia Water subsidiary OTV to partner on municipal water treatment and sewage, seawater reverse osmosis (SWRO) desalination, and industrial water projects. The non-exclusive agreement’s geographic focus will be on Africa, MENA, and Southeast Asia.

The MoU comes six months after partners Hitachi, OTV, and Egyptian engineering firm ArabCo won a tender for a 200,000 m3/day SWRO project in Iraq. Also in 2014, Hitachi, Posco E&C, and OTV won a US$120 million second-stage project for a sewage treatment plant in Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam. The time scale of construction is expected to be 54 months.
