Water Mergers & Acquisitions: Trends and Deal Flow, Q3 2024 

The first half of 2024 ended with a reported 195 transactions tracked by Bluefield, largely supported by tailwinds such as waning inflation, increased investments in the infrastructure end market, and positive indications of near-term interest rate cuts. Though the tally is significantly higher than the 176 deals recorded in the first half of 2023, utility M&A activity remains remarkably low, with only 47 deals booked in the first half of 2024.

ADS Boosts U.S. Wastewater Position via Orenco 

On 20 August 2024, Infiltrator, a subsidiary of Advanced Drainage Systems (ADS), announced the acquisition of family-owned Orenco Systems. Sutherlin, Oregon-based Orenco manufactures decentralized, on-site wastewater treatment products. The deal, expected to close in Q3 2025, has been presented as an expansion of ADS’s Infiltrator business offerings, mainly providing on-site septic solutions to residential end users.

Water Utility M&A Approval Times Point to Consolidation Hurdles
